EDGE is a middle school faith formation program at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. EDGE is dedicated to bringing 6th, 7th & 8th grade students closer to Christ through a relational ministry centered on the Eucharist. The young adults, parents, and ministers who lead EDGE are committed to combining faith, sacrament, education, communication and fun in order to share Christ's message of honest love. We believe that Jesus calls each of us to an extraordinary life, one that puts Him as our highest priority.

About EDGE

EDGE is a middle school faith formation program at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. We host a variety of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from several schools, including our namesake, for weekly programming during the school year. For our 2009-2010 Schedule, please click here. In addition, we coordinate several extra opportunities for middle school students to have fun and learn about faith. For these other events, please visit Events.

LIFE TEEN
EDGE is an international youth ministry program organized by Life Teen, its high school counterpart. As a church with EDGE, we have access to fantastic youth ministry resources which include nightly programming, retreat planning, and worldwide networking. The foundational goal of any Life Teen program is, "Bringing teens closer to Christ."

Here at Our Lady of Grace, we combine these fantastic EDGE and Life Teen resources with our own ideas, observations, and relationships. This means we not only utilize proven tools, but also make it a personal program that is constantly changing.

EDGE NIGHTS
If you've ever been to one EDGE night, then you've really only been to one EDGE night. We try to capture the attention of our youth by appealing to them through a variety of teaching styles, unique activities, and programming that always keeps them on their toes. But if we did have to give you a basic impression of and EDGE night, it would look like this: Kick things off with a game or fun activity, hear a speaker or presentation on a topic relevant to the lives of the youth, split into small groups for discussion led by an adult and high school leader, and regroup for closing, prayer, and snacks.

LEADERS
Dozens of people go into making EDGE possible. A CORE team of youth ministers, young adults, high school upperclassmen, parents, and priests volunteer their time to coordinate and facilitate weekly EDGE nights.  Patricia Borzabodi, our Snack Coordinator, helps organize many parents who bring snacks each week. Please see Snacks for more details. We also have guest speakers who donate their time and stories for the good of our youth. EDGE Events

Besides our weekly Wednesday EDGE nights, Our Lady of Grace also participates in several other events made just for junior high students!

Carmel Deanery Junior High Lock-In
November 6-7, 2009
8:00pm - 7:00am
Meet at the Donovan Center
Cost is $10

The Carmel Deanery Lock-In is a fantastic night of games and fun for junior high students. Spend the whole night playing sports, video games, board games, and a variety of other activities. Not only will this be a great time for Our Lady of Grace students, but we'll be joined by junior high students from across the deanery. Please bring $10, a 2-Liter to share, any sports or gaming equipment/systems you have, and comfortable clothes for a great night!

6th Grade St. Meinrad Trip
January 2-3, 2010
St. Meinrad Archabbey
6:30am on Saturday through 5:30pm on Sunday
Cost is $90 for students, $65 for adults.

Our visit to St. Meinrad has become a favorite trip for sixth graders at Our Lady of Grace. This will be both a wonderful retreat experience and an opportunity for prayer and learning!

Snow Tubing Trip
February 6, 2010
Perfect North Slopes
Meet at St. Louis de Montfot at NOON, return at 10:00pm.
Cost is $50

Bundle up for our annual tubing trip to Perfect North Slopes on January 30th! We'll have a great time snow-tubing all day long! This activity will also be held with several other parishes in the Carmel Deanery and should be a great way to have fun and meet some new people.

Core Team

The EDGE Core Team is comprised of youth ministers, parents, young adults, high school juniors and seniors, and a priest.  This group takes its wide variety of leadership skills and experience and applies it to leading junior high and middle school students closer to Christ.  The Core Team is absolutely essential to each and every EDGE night, from signing students in to cleaning up after snacks.  The primary role of a Core Team member is to develop relationships with EDGE students by participating and leading activities and small groups.  Small group discussion is the life of the EDGE program and at the heart of forming faith, and our Core Team leads this discussion with care and gusto.

Particulary, the high school Core Team members deserve special praise.  They are chosen to lead EDGE because of their leadership qualities and then give up their Wednesday nights to help minister to others.  In addition to regular Core Team responsibilities, high school leaders develop their own skills by becoming expert small group leaders and by giving a witness talk to the EDGE group once per year.
