Alleluia, Christ is Risen! Risen indeed, Alleluia!
As a result of the nominations held a couple weeks ago, invitations were sent to about 150 parishioners inviting them to various Information Nights.
Our first Information Night was held on Monday, May 18, for Greeters. The meeting was not publicized other than in the letter that was sent to nominees, the evening was probably scheduled too soon after the letters were sent, and we failed to invite those who are already involved in the Ministry of Greeter. Other than that, everything was fine! One friendly and enthusiastic person showed up, but because we are looking for a team of eight or nine greeters at each Mass on the weekend, we will schedule another information night for the Ministry of Greeter sometime in the next few months.
The next Information Night was for the Hospitality Council, on Wednesday, May 20. We were more successful with our numbers and turnout for this council, which will have two basic functions: To constantly be on the lookout for ways to make our parish more welcoming (not only on Saturday evenings or Sundays, and not only with newcomers or visitors), and to address the ongoing needs of hospitality in our parish. This includes various social activities, get-togethers, celebrations, and so on.
The third Information Night was for the Children/Youth Formation Council. That was held on Thursday, May 21st. The enthusiasm among the eight or so parishioners in attendance was very encouraging. Even though the meeting was for informational/organizational purposes only, the group several times spontaneously jumped into discussions about how to build on our programs and ministries of faith formation for children, youth, and young adults. It's a nice problem to have a group that's too enthusiastic!
These two councils will be getting off the ground by having their first official meetings in June. I look forward to good things coming from both groups. The Parish Advisory Board's Info Night was on Tuesday, May 26, too late to summarize for this week's bulletin. More updates later. Meanwhile, please pray for all those involved in its ministries. While Fr. John and I are at the Clergy Convocation this week, Fr. Doug McCormack will be celebrating the weekday Masses. Please pray for all the priests taking part in this opportunity for continuing formation. St. John Vianney, pray for us!
